Appearance:Hanzatsu is a very short gnome, standing only a little over three feet in height. To compensate for his stature, he seems to have unusually large brown eyes, big feet, and comically oversized ears. His black hair is long, for a gnome, and most often found braided to keep it from falling into his work. Usually dressed in clothing far to large for his size, he is forever tripping over and onto inanimate objects. For safety's sake, Hanzatsu wears black leather gloves and clunky brown marching boots to keep the components he uses away from his skin, which he claims is "very sensitive."

Personality: Hanzatsu is constantly speaking, formulating in whatever he's doing. Forever at odds with himself, he carries around a notepad and a thin stick of granite to keep up with his thoughts. Most people find Hanzatsu with his head in his notes, gnawing on the makeshift quill. He is cheery more often than not, but the young apprentices have often complained that his screaming wakes the dead when his plans do not go as expected. He is never violent around people, however in the dead of night the entire building can hear his curses. Han is not a powerful mage, which is to say he is not gifted in the way most mages are. Nevertheless he still found a gift with combining elements and components to create potions and devices. Though he is an intelligent gnome, he lacks the common sense that most of his peers seemed to have gained in their schooling. Still, Hanzatsu is fearless, at least when it comes to his potions. Only through experimentation can he achieve what it is he seeks. Whenever he finds out what it is he seeks of course.

Other Family Ties Grandfather: A sickly old man known simply as `Granpa.' He is always yelling at people, and seems very tempermental.
Background: Hanzatsu Kokoromi was born the only son of a simple smith and his wife. Always an awkward child, inelegant and clumsy, he was frowned upon by his community as always being too troublesome. He was forever `accidentally' knocking things over and breaking objects that needn't be broken. Too keep himself otherwise occupied, Han buried himself in books and graphs and formulas, learning as much as he could as long as it kept him away from his stern father. Very much the nerd, he never spent much time outside with the other children in his neighborhood, content to socialize with his books. When his schooling started, and talents, or lack there of, as a mage came to fore, he developed a taste for alchemic development. Rather than spending his time learning to throw fireballs, he learned how to harness their power into little glass bottles. His passion for the subject and his resolve to learn vaulted him ahead of his classmates, even as he fell behind with the more standardized wizard training. Now, Hanzatsu spends in the lab. Many of his colleges say he simply sleeps there, as they never see him leave, and most of the students gossip about what it is he is actually doing. intelligent capelet with a bad habit of mischief. He has big, curious
eyes and is most often seen perched upon Hanzatsu's shoulder, his long
tail wrapped lazily around his owner's arms. Shinrai's coat is a
startling red-brown, leaning more toward the red-ish side, almost
making him seem like a little ball of fire. His fingers are
extraordinarily long, allowing him to "help" Hanzatsu in his work.
